It enables you to place 3D, true-to-scale furniture directly into the living room, dining room, office or whichever space you wish to make your own. All with the help of the latest augmented reality technology.
INSIGHTS
IKEA Place is rooted in IKEA's democratic design approach and the goal of making a better everyday life for the many people. Enabling them to virtually place furniture in their own spaces, IKEA Place helps unleash their imagination of home furnishing, while enabling IKEA to “open” millions of new showrooms globally through people’s smartphones. Bringing IKEA closer to the people and people closer to IKEA.
Our creative design approach aimed at creating the most natural and intuitive experience. Centered around the camera view in which people place their furniture, we made sure to stay out of the way as much as possible, letting people focus on bringing their furnishing wishes to life.
We took traditional UI elements and designing them from the ground up to fit the visual language people are used to from IKEA. We combined this with a conversational UI that talked users through parts of the app (like camera access and onboarding) in a human and friendly tone of voice. Ensuring people would feel confident when placing their first virtual object in real-life.
While IKEA’s showrooms and website open the IKEA world to everyone, they don’t allow you to imagine what’s really possible in your world — at home. And the risk is simply too high to imagine or experiment with home furnishings. It’s easier to postpone or play it safe. You just don’t know how something is going to look or feel in your space until can see and feel it. After all, seeing is believing.
