Digital

The social angle provided Pack with a unique positioning. Traditional temp agencies mainly focus on the financial benefit (make money work) and startups are obsessed with algorithms that leverage data to create better matches. With Pack we designed an experience that delivers on those benefits (get paid the same week and smart recommendations) and tells a more relatable story: when you work with the right people, work doesn’t feel like work.The brand identity and illustration language immediately made it stand out from everything else on the market.

Pending a strategic decision to either scale our pilot or integrate the learnings and features into Brunel’s core business, active acquisition is currently on hold. The new brand was co-created with students and small business owners. Through focus groups and interviews we discovered that the people they work with are more important than the work they do. That’s why we positioned Pack as the on-demand gig community. Social by design. The colorful app celebrates every key moment in the journey with playful illustrations inspired by internet culture.

We worked with illustrator Robin Davey to create a set of 10+ characters representing iconic jobs, employers and work-related situations in a fun way. This allowed us to create a rich world of illustrations and animations that were used both in the product itself as well as in the campaigns to drive students and employers to the platform.

The social positioning led to a set of unique features that established Pack as a real community: see who’s on your shift in the app, invite friends to the same job and social reviews. This led to an app that is the ultimate proof of the brands promise.

Next to these features the app includes the ability to apply in 2 minutes, chat with your employer and it gets you paid the same week through the app.

Brunel (flexible deployment services for specialised professionals) wanted to enter the market of temporary student work with a completely new digital-only platform, launched as a corporate start-up. While the traditional staffing market is dependent on a lot of human intervention, Brunel aimed to create a self-sustaining platform that matched students to employers automatically. We were asked to create a unique positioning, brand identity, digital product and campaign.
