The End of Oil

The End of Oil

In collaboration with Greenpeace's People vs Oil movement, we made a crafty statement & promise from the People, to the Oil Industry.

We succeeded to create a whole world of special effects.

We wanted to make something different then the usual footage Greenpeace uses of demonstrating people or oil covered animals. We did like to make the observer feel a bit awkward by depicting the proces of oil winning mixed with scenes of oil pollution in a beautiful stylisch and abstract way. One of the ways to do so was to film it in black and white, also we approached our subjects very simplified and iconic. We did shot everything for real in camera and we used a lot of high speed film techniques. In most commercials using high speed shots like this, the edit is very fast, we did choose for a slow edit to really let the viewer experience what's happening. It was a big challenge to build and test all different kind of rigs for special effects. It was a bigger challenge to make the complicated shots look good from the first beginning to the very end.

Together with Greenpeace's People VS Oil movement we wanted to make a strong, inspiring statement to the oil Industry.

We were very impressed to see that this film wasn’t made in cgi, but with special effects, which made beautiful iconic images to get attention for an important message.
