CREATIVE COLLIDER #4 | September 7th 2022

The Creative Community Makes Space:

Womanhood in The Industry

Is there a female revolution taking place around us, or is it just great marketing? The next Creative Collider asks a panel of diverse individuals an important question; ‘what space does womanhood inhabit in the creative industry?’ From behind to in front of the camera, we explore the boundless strengths and monstrous challenges that come with gender inequality, the different treatments given to different cultural backgrounds, and the impact of pregnancy and motherhood on all of us. Join us on September 7 to question, celebrate and commit to shaping an industry that makes space for all.

CHRISTEL HOFSTEE - General Manager @ Ambassadors

Christel Hofstee has over 25 years of experience as a producer on creative campaigns and short films. Most recently Executive Producer at Halal, she's headed up creative production studio Ambassadors as General Manager since late 2021.

Ambassadors is a creative production studio driven by the belief that craft makes all the difference. Founded in 2007 and with three studios across Amsterdam and New York, Ambassadors cultivates the talent and tools to craft technology-driven campaigns such as Wear Your Denim Till the End for G-Star Raw with The Family Amsterdam and Halal, which uses deepfake technology to show a man ageing with his denim.

SOPHIE DROS - Film Director

Sophie Dros creates films about rather politically incorrect subjects and lifestyles she feels intrigued by. In order to find their true origins, she digs deep. Once arrived at the bottom, Sophie’s journey with the viewers really starts.

Film and television is developing more and more into a direction where people are made to look like fools, which seems to have the sole purpose of making ourselves feel better about our own imperfections. In general people aren’t that different from one another and that’s what Sophie endeavours to emphasize in her films. According to Sophie, the medium film is there to broaden our horizon and helps us learn more about people and subjects we would otherwise never encounter. She finds a special visual narration in documentary crucial. Sophie believes that documentary is more than finding interesting characters or subjects: form and content must meet in order to keep the film challenging to her and her audience.

BERYL CHUNG - Creative Director @ Media.Monks

Beryl Chung is a creative director, illustrator, and designer working in digital media & advertising. She is currently based in Amsterdam as a Global Creative Director at Media.Monks.

Beryl is a born and raised New Yorker with a passion for art, digital advertising and Elvis Presley. Introduced to information design through comic books, she came to understand the key to good UX early on in life. While working at Ogilvy Shanghai she changed her focus on digital, learning to embrace both the human and technology side of advertising.

Fast forward to a few years and countless karaoke nights later, and Beryl’s bringing empathy back to interaction. Beryl’s focus throughout her career has been on leveraging advances in tech to create more natural, humanistic engagement in digital. Her experience extends across industries and clients, producing award-winning work for brands such as Google, Adidas, H&M, Unilever and Premier League.
