Creative Collider #5: Special IDFA Edition

For this special edition of Creative Collider on November 2nd, join IDFA programmers and researchers for a behind the scenes look at the upcoming 35th edition of IDFA - International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam. On November 9 - 20, IDFA will present a trend-setting program of films, talks, performances, and interactive and immersive projects throughout Amsterdam.

IDFA's programmer Sarah Dawson and DocLab Program Researcher & Editor Annabel Troost will present the highlights of IDFA's program and tell you about the selection process, the entries received and what the criteria are for being selected for the festival.

Speakers:

Annabel Troost is a programmer and editor. She started out as co-founder of online magazine hard//hoofd, and went on working on digital storytelling formats for museums and art spaces in Rotterdam and London. She currently works in the curatorial team of IDFA Doclab, IDFA’s programme for interactive and XR documentary. She’s interested in co-creation, feminist perspectives on curating and the potential (pitfalls) of immersive storytelling formats in engaging with remote geographies and each other. She studied the aesthetics of digital art in Amsterdam, Berlin and London with an MA in Preservation and Presentation of the Moving Image.

Sarah Dawson is a programmer and festival organizer from South Africa, where she began her career lecturing and writing about film and presenting grassroots film exhibition programs towards nurturing a local culture of film appreciation. She has gone on to contribute to festival programs including Durban International Film Festival, where she served as festival manager, as well as Africa in Motion, Sheffield Doc/Fest, London Short Film Festival, and IDFA. She has an MA in Film Studies from the University of KwaZulu-Natal.

Following the presentations, there will be a Q&A with the audience.
