Tonight the ADCN launched the 49th Annual Book during the “Vernissage” in Pakhuis de Zwijger in Amsterdam. The night was centered around the topic “Beyond Advertising”.
Inspired by the creation of “Sweetie”, winner of the ADCN Lampen Grand Prix in 2014, creative/strategist Marcel Kampman (Happykamping) was invited to be the curator for the book’s design. Together with twelve makers from the creative industry he created twelve different book covers, each made with different materials and techniques. Art director Thijs Biersteker (Moore) created ‘the cover that judges you’: a cover that only gives you access to the book’s contents when you approach it without emotion and judgment. Food designers de culinaire werkplaats, the Open Wetlab at Waag Society, design studio Oak & Morrow, multidisciplinary artist Merijn Tinga and textile designer Borre Akkerwijk worked on the book cover project.
The ADCN and De Persgroep Nederland also launched a special edition of PS van de Week about the revolution in advertising. Ronald Ockhuysen, editor in chief of Het Parool, handed out the first copy to ADCN chairman Lode Schaeffer.
Dinesh Sonak, ADCN’s managing director explains: “The ADCN wants to stimulate the Dutch creative community to work together more often with experts from all different creative fields. The most innovative and impactful ideas arise at the intersection of different disciplines. In the world of fashion, design and architecture you already see a lot of crossovers, but in advertising we should experiment more often with people from outside our own industry. We are really thrilled with the participation of twelve very inspiring makers for our book project. The special edition of PS van de Week reports about these opportunities and developments. We hope that the book and magazine will lead to new perspectives and collaborations. In the coming week, thanks to De Persgroep Nederland, the PS van de Week will be distributed to thousands of professionals in marketing and media.”
Finally, two creative legends were inducted in the ADCN ‘Hall of Fame’. Christian Borstlap (Part of a Bigger Plan) and Matthijs van Heijningen Jr. were honored for their contributions to creative communications, especially for their boundary-crossing international work.
