A Webby Award, Cannes Lion, Lovie and Merit… Sharif Abdel Mawla’s work definitely hasn’t gone by unnoticed. From films to commercials and music videos: his creative vision is limitless, even though he never went to film school. Which project are you most proud of? Why?
My first short '7 Moroccans and Jos', because it's still relevant.
How do you deal with (the fear of) failure? Any tips?
Trust the people you work with and be prepared for everything.
What's the most interesting trend in your professional field for the next decade?
Collaboration and accessibility.
Can you recommend one thing that sparked your imagination recently?
I recently watched 'Good Time' a movie by the Safdie brothers. It's as hysterical as Uncut Gems. Go see it.
What's the best piece of (professional) advice you ever received?
Make stuff you like and you will get more of it.
