A huge thanks to Dominique van Rhee for being our fourth FRONTIER and designing the cover of our FUTURE Issue. As an all round creative and database for everything that is up-and-coming, we sat down with Dominique to find out more about his past work, his 2021 resolutions and what he hopes the future has in store for him.

What kind of job/project would you definitely want to do in the future?

That would be having my own brand. Probably something in music, fashion or both.

What has been your favourite piece of work to date?

Ironically that’s a piece of work I didn’t design/illustrate myself. For Appelsap Fresh Music Festival I did the monthly curation of the playlist covers. Every month I asked an artist to create the cover for the playlist based on a template I created.

What design ritual will you be doing until the end of time?

Scrolling

What playlist do you have on repeat at the moment?

That’s my own playlist Optimum Ultra which I especially updated for this occasion. You can find the playlist here.

What is the most fun project you have worked on?

This is an ongoing adventure with my friends from Goldband. They were starting a boyband and asked me and my current business partner to think of a cover for their first EP two years ago. This resulted in now having our own Creative Management Agency in which we do management, bookings, marketing and art direction. It is called UNISEX.

If you could pick one recent campaign/project that makes you think, ‘I wish I’d done that’, what would it be and why?

The recent rebranding of the CIA because of the rebranding itself and all the memes that followed made me laugh and cry at the same time.

Looking ahead to 2021, what are your resolutions this year from a creative perspective?

I really love working on my iMac, but I really should be doing more fieldwork and meeting people. I guess that’s something I’m going to do after lockdown! :)

Any advice for young budding creatives?

Just do it and surround yourself with people who are already doing it. This really helped me get things going.

And finally, could you give us one example for each of the following:
