Miguel Teixeira, Founder and Executive Creative Director of Mr.Frank, is in our spotlight this week! As a person driven by endless curiosity Miguel is not only inspired by ambitious and creative people, the constant reminder of the industry being supposedly ‘not that easy’ motivates him everyday to strive and follow his passion. Mr.Frank, an Amsterdam-based film production company with a strong international outlook gives Miguel the opportunity to push the boundaries and expectations of both the commercial and art world.

As the Club for Creativity, we’d like to start by asking you to create a self-portrait.

PERSONAL

Do you own a collection and if so, what is it?

My girlfriend calls me “the experiences collector” so I guess that’s my biggest one. During the first lockdown I was skating a lot and for fun bought 2 SUPREME boards. Now I have 150, and I don’t even like SUPREME.

What is your favourite piece of art and why?

Right now I'm in love with a new piece I bought from Oje Artist, a super talented Portuguese artist working mostly with wood and street art. It’s called LIFE and I love the way the artist conveys emotion, pain, suffering. See for yourself...

Who is the one artist whose work you'd collect if you could?

I would love to have Tadao Ando design my house with full creative freedom.

What technology could you not do without?

Don’t tell anyone, but I’m secretly dreaming of a big ass solar flare. How much fun would it be to live without Electronics again? Can you imagine producing a film like that?

What music could we find on your favourite playlist?

I’m completely obsessed with C.Tangana right now. We almost just did a project with him… I reckon it will still happen sooner or later.

PROFESSIONAL

Which phase of the creative process excites you the most and why?

I love rehearsals with actors to be specific. I like to see a character that was drawn out on paper, come to life and change and develop as an actor has a go at it.

What professional skill do you value the most?

Empathy. I think if you can understand a problem or a person you can find the best, most creative and kind solutions.

If you could pick one recent campaign/project that makes you think, ‘I wish I’d done that’, what would it be and why?

Burberry from MegaForce. Although it’s purely a visual spectacle, it's extremely well done, very technical yet incredible. Hope to one day do something along those lines.

How do you deal with failure?

It’s my favourite aspect of life. I LOVE failure. It’s hard, it’s painful, but once you truly embrace it, you begin to love it, and soon it becomes a way of life. Once you accept that you will fail, all the fear goes out the window.

Out of the campaigns/projects you’ve worked on, which makes you the most proud?

I think the latest series we did for Parley for the Oceans. Still yet to come out, but I think it’s an extremely important message and the outcome looks great!

Who do you love/admire the most in the Dutch creative industry?

Right now I think it would be Gianni Grot and the whole crowd of omroep ZWART. I think what they are doing is pretty cool and I’m super excited to help them on their/our mission.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

“It’s not that easy!” - All my life I’ve heard this and it always inspired me. Inspired me to push forward, to work hard and to show everyone that, “it is that easy!”. It requires love, dedication, and many sleepless nights, but it’s certainly much easier than you think. 99% of people in our industry aren't geniuses. They are purely people that have a strong passion and are willing to put in the time and effort and make their dreams come true.
