Sanne Lemmen, Senior Creative at Selmore Creative Agency, has been working in the creative industry for over ten years now, seven of which have been in the advertising industry (previously at TBWA\Neboko and ACHTUNG!). She considers herself to be a hybrid creative – both copy and art. ‘I'm an insight driven creative. An idea is considered good when it comes from a truth. From there you can bring a thought further to a strong bigger idea, the base for a good campaign.’

As the Club for Creativity, we’d like to ask you to get creative and create a self-portrait.

PERSONAL

What is your favourite website/app and why?

My podcast app. I love to go for a walk while listening to other people talking. Varying from purely entertaining shows to podcasts that discuss social issues.

Do you own a collection and if so, what is it?

Sneakers! I’ve been trying to minimise my purchases though, due to a lack of space.

What technology could you not do without?

Google maps. People who know me know I have the worst sense of direction. Without Google I would have been lost a million times.

What is the most unforgettable place you have travelled to?

Too many to choose from. Every place has its own memories. From the first time travelling alone to a summer job in France at the age of 16 to couch surfing in New York with my best friend or hitchhiking in Swaziland. (Don’t do that please…)

What is your most recent 'find'?

Kobo Plus. Which is like Spotify for eBooks. I just got myself a subscription and feel exactly how I felt as a kid in the library. The struggle of picking what to read next is real.

If you didn't live in the Netherlands, where would you live?

Cape Town. The perfect combination of liveliness, nature, beautiful architecture and the best people.

What is the best gift you've ever received and why?

A five-year memory book. It helps me to remember the small and special things that happen in daily life.

PROFESSIONAL

Which phase of the creative process excites you the most and why?

The moment you feel you came up with the winning idea. The moment before you double check the brief, think about budget or any other restrictions. The moment where everything is still possible.

What makes a great or hero client?

Clients who dare to be and do things differently.

What professional skill do you value the most?

The way my brain thinks. Often, I don’t even know myself how I came up with something, but it’s just there. In my head.

If you could pick one recent campaign/project that makes you think, ‘I wish I’d done that’, what would it be and why?

It’s not often I share something with my ‘advertising’ friends, assuming they have seen it already. But I did share Womb Stories, cause I had to make sure they’d see it.

Out of the campaigns/projects you’ve worked on, which makes you the most proud?

The world of Rose for KNGF – one of the most recent projects. It’s the first film out of a series of three. A long and rewarding project.

What top tips do you have to help people get creatively inspired?

Get your creativity outside of the advertising world. You won’t find original insights in previously done campaigns. You find them where you find people.

What’s the first thing you do when you start a project?

I start talking. Talking about the brief, the question behind the brief and most importantly about own experiences concerning the topic of the brief. You find a lot of inspiration in your own past or the past of the people around you.
