THE TWISTED ISSUE

THE TWISTED ISSUE

In a year that has been twisted out of shape, turned upside down and forced inside out, our theme for this Issue reflects not only our current mental state, but our perception of reality and the 'new normal'.
With our TWISTED Issue, rethink your remaining Christmas gifts, look back on the abnormal ads we saw produced in 2020, take a fresh look at Amsterdam and go topsy turvy thanks to our cover artist.
Mervyn ten Dam & Liza Enebeis,
President & Co-President of ADCN

SHIFTING PERSPECTIVES

Give different kinds of gifts this Christmas.

Avoid all that wasteful gift wrapping this year and send a gift that feels good and does good. Brought to you by the founders of Kidfund and artists Inez and Vinoodh, Double Dutch’s philosophy is simple: more cash, less trash and great art. By working with charities, artists and brand partners they offer meaningful cash gifts that create meaningful change. The app and brand proposition were developed by KesselsKramer in partnership with international payment platform Adyen.

BREAK THE MOULD

Or create the mould?

Take a look back at the year in advertising when the industry was shaken to its core, calls for change could no longer be ignored, and we all couldn't stop talking about a mouldy burger (two of our Members in the Spotlight Samyr Souen and Tolga Büyükdoganay wished they had made the campaign). Creative Review has complied the trends of 2020 and reactions to them.

EYE OF THE BEHOLDER

Bizarre, beautiful, baffling and brutal.

Luuk Disveld, Design Director of Generous Studio and our Member in the Spotlight of this week, told us that if he could collect the work of one artist, it would be Christian Rex van Minnen. His hyperrealism paintings are at an intersection between surrealism and Dutch Golden Age, combining humour, satire, incredible technical skill – his approach is definitely TWISTED. Discover more of Christian's works as well as an interview with him from Juxtapoz Magazine below.

SIGHT SEEING

Discover a new side of Amsterdam.

In a city that is growing in different directions, with people coming and going, Amsterdam is constantly on the move. Through the exhibition 'Refresh Amsterdam' at Amsterdam Museum, 25 artists/collectives (including our Dutch Creativity Awards Jury Member Brian Elstak) reflect on the city of today, map out changes and tell special stories about poorly lit sides of the city. Once museums are back open in 2021, we highly recommend a visit.

FRONTIER

Get to know our cover artist.

'I always try to give my images a twist, to give a certain alienation from reality.'Anne Claire de Breij

A huge thanks to Anne Claire de Breij, in collaboration with Ilse van Stokkum, for being our third FRONTIER and designing the cover of our TWISTED Issue. As a photographer generally known for being an alluring perfectionist, Anne Claire’s work often includes bright and bold colours and has a highly graphic character element, where she twists reality and plays between fiction and actuality – causing us to immediately think of her work for our TWISTED theme. Check our our interview with Anne Claire below.
